Since January 2010, Reafrio has been implementing industrial Solid Waste Management Program, managed by Quality, Safety, and Environment Engineering, under the supervision of the Occupational Safety technician.
The objectives of the program are:
-Follow normas and parameters established by the competent bodies in Environment (Fatma and Ibama);
-Ensure a safe and quality work environment for all company employees;
-Carry out the separation of waste according to technical standards established by the federal powers and environmental agencies of the country; and
-Properly dispose of all residues generated in the company's activities, as established by current regulations.
How was the program implemented?
The implementation process began with studies on the laws governing the management of industrial waste and the search for information from federal environmental agencies, public agencies and collection companies. After this study, the Environmental Aspects Assessment and Impact Assessment (Laia) was prepared internally at the company, observing the generation of waste and the impacts caused, in order to register and classify all generated waste.
Since then, they have been classified into Class II recyclables, covering all materials that may be reused, such as paper, plastic, and scrap; Non-Recyclable Class II, which classifies materials that cannot be reused, such as cleaning waste and sander flaps; and Class I Non-Recyclable, including contaminated materials - chemical packaging and other contaminated materials, for example.
Currently, each company's production process has an appropriate and identified disposal bin, such as paper/cardboard, plastic, non-recyclable waste, scrap metal, and contaminated materials, which facilitates transportation and ensures better quality waste storage. All production staff is periodically trained to provide instructions on how the program operates.
Waste Disposal
Waste is disposed of by companies registered with Fatma and Ibama, following all environmental standards. Within Reafrio, materials are collected in the fresh air, checked and cleaned daily. When the deposits are full, the Safety and Environment Officer contacts the collector and arranges for collection.
Another commitment of Reafrio's quality policy is to be in compliance with environmental norms, so the company believes that valuing an environmental awareness among its employees helps to develop a culture of respect and preservation, reducing negative impacts on the environment.
